As a member of the Nursing Leadership Think Tank, I was honored to contribute to the centenary celebrations of the Uganda Nurses and Midwifery Council in November 2022—a historic milestone recognizing a century of nursing and midwifery leadership. The occasion was distinguished by the presence of Her Excellency Jessica Alupo and the Honorable Minister of Health, Jane Ruth Aceng, alongside esteemed national and international leaders.
In brief but meaningful exchanges, I expressed appreciation for their continued support and underscored an urgent priority: strengthening nursing leadership through formal representation, including the establishment of a dedicated directorate. Moments such as these reinforce a critical truth: when nurses are empowered and present at decision-making tables, health systems become stronger, more equitable, and more responsive to the communities they serve.
